An Experimental Study of the Tissue Reaction to Some Dental Grafting Materials.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to observe histopathologic reaction of the oral mucosa, the muscles of thigh and the tibial bone to several implanted dental grafting materials which were made to uniform dimension(10m in length and 3i in diameter). The materials used for experiment were ticonium, acrylic resin, silicone rubber and surgical stainless steel wire.
Experimental animals were divided into two groups, which were subdivided into four groups, and were sacrificed at the 30th and 60th day after operation.
All the samples were fixed in the solution of 10% formalin, and bone tissue was decalcified in the Plank-Richlo solution. These samples were embedded in paraffin for slide section and stained by means of hematoxylin and eosin.
The results were as follows;
1. In the 30th day group, the graft material was covered with fibrous capsule, in which chronic inflammatory cells were infiltrated mostly.
2. In the 60th day group, collagen fibers and the thickness of fibrous capsule around the graft material were increased, and chronic inflammatory cells were diminished or disappeared.
3. In the bone tissue, the newly formed trabeculae, with the activation of osteoblast, were formed at the periphery of trabeculae.
4. In the oral mucous membrane, inflammatory reaction was slight compared with those of other tissue.
5. All of four graft materials used for experiment were harmless to the vital tissue.
